FAA Law Library
New Subject & Title Location Guide
The FAA Law Library is pleased to announce the completion of "The
Guide", a subject and title location guide that is designed to enable
the user to locate a publication by the subject, title or Library of Congress
classification number. The 225 titles that are listed alphabetically provide
a representative cross-section of the subject areas that make up the Law
Library's collection. Thus, even if the particular title for which you
are searching is not included, another title within your area of interest
will direct you to the immediate area of the stacks within which you can
browse for the title for which you are searching. Publications that do
not have a call number can be located by the row number and/or the section
name (i.e., the Code of Federal Regulations is located on L-3A under the
section "Federal Regulations"). The Guide will be updated every
three months to reflect any changes in the collection.
New Sign-Out Procedure at the FAA Law Library
As of July 16, 2001, there is a new sign-out procedure at the FAA Law
Library. This new procedure is designed to maintain a better record of
the location of all library books in order to accommodate the needs of
all library users.
The revised CIRCULATION SIGN-OUT SHEET has a place for the borrower's
name, phone number, routing symbol and date, as well as specific information
about the book(s) being borrowed. The CIRCULATION SIGN-OUT SHEET together
with complete directions for filling it out are posted at the entrance
to the library.
The success of this new procedure is dependent on the cooperation of
all users of the library. Participation is an excellent way to demonstrate
consideration for your colleagues at the Federal Aviation Administration.
American Association of Law Libraries 94th Annual Meeting & Conference
Terry Dempsey, FAA Law Librarian, had this to say about the recent conference:
The Annual Meeting of the American Association of Law Libraries in Minneapolis
was, as always, an amazing smorgasbord of workshops, meetings and seminars.
While this organization is often criticized for an over emphasis on the
needs and concerns of academic law libraries, I was pleasantly surprised
by the number of sessions that addressed issues that were very relevant
to federal law libraries. Interestingly, the exhibit hall proved to be
one of the most dynamic learning environments at the entire conference.
LexisNexis and West provided excellent demonstrations of the most recent
developments of their on-line services. It was also very helpful to be
able to talk to representatives from such publishers as CCH, BNA and Aspen.
Of course, one of the best features of this annual meeting is the opportunity
to meet and network with other law librarians from around the country.
